Two ways to approach the work
Tree removal does not always mean felling the whole tree at once. The method depends on the tree itself and the usable space around it.
The tree is felled as a whole, then the branches and trunk are cut into manageable pieces on the ground.
The tree is taken down in smaller parts, working through the branches and trunk instead of bringing it down in one piece.

Look beyond the tree
Show us the space beneath the canopy as well as the tree itself. Roofs, greenhouses, fences, sheds and planted borders affect the working area and how cut material can be handled.
Restricted access can be just as significant. A narrow side passage, steps, a steep slope or a long carry to the road may add more work than the tree’s height suggests.
Before starting, we agree the access route and identify anything that needs moving or protecting. We also explain which parts of the garden need to stay clear while the work is underway.
Agree the finish from the start
Branches, timber and the stump are separate decisions. Include them in the conversation so the quote matches the finish you expect.
Green-waste removal can form part of the quote. The volume to process, carry and load matters, as does the route out of the garden. We agree the clearance rather than leave it as an assumption.
If you want timber or woodchip left for your own use, say so when we quote. We need to agree the amount, any cutting involved and a suitable place to leave it. Keeping material still involves handling it.
Tree removal usually leaves a stump unless further work is agreed. Cutting it close to ground level does not remove it. Tell us if you want to reclaim the area for lawn, planting or another use.
What affects the quote?
A tree in an open area and one squeezed between a house and a shed can need very different amounts of work. We quote for the actual removal and agreed clear-up.

Before arranging the work
Trees covered by a Tree Preservation Order or in a conservation area can need consent or prior notice. Confirm the position with your local planning authority before work is scheduled. Find your council’s TPO and conservation-area checks.
Useful answers
A small garden does not automatically rule out removal. The tree may need dismantling in sections, with the work planned around the available space. We need to look at the tree, nearby buildings and fences, and the route for carrying branches and timber out.
Only where the tree and site are suitable and there is an appropriate clear drop zone. When space is restricted, taking the tree down in smaller sections may be more appropriate. The method is decided after assessing the actual job.
Not automatically. Cutting down the tree leaves a stump unless further work is agreed. Stump grinding is a separate part of the scope, with machine access, nearby features and your plans for the space checked before it is included in the quote.
Tell us when requesting the quote. We can agree what is left, where it is put and any cutting involved. Keeping timber changes the handling and waste arrangements, so it is better to decide before the work starts.

Tell us why you are considering removal. If the main issue is size or clearance, pruning may be an option. We can discuss the alternatives after looking at the tree; a requested reduction is not suitable for every tree.
