The right work for your tree
Looking for a tree surgeon can start with a simple problem: less light in the garden, branches over the roof or a tree that no longer fits its space. The answer is not always to remove it.
We talk through the result you want, then consider the size and condition of the tree, the surrounding garden and what can sensibly be retained. That may mean a few selected branches, a reduction or complete removal.
If the growth is part of a continuous boundary, our hedge cutting and reduction service may be the better starting point.
What we can do

For a tree that is taking too much space or spreading towards the house. Pruning removes selected growth; a crown reduction shortens the outer branches to reduce the tree’s overall spread or height. The amount and timing depend on the tree, its condition and the shape you want to retain.

Near homes, fences or planting, sectional dismantling may be appropriate: the tree is removed in smaller pieces, with the working area planned around it.

The crown is the branch-and-leaf part of a tree. Reducing its outer spread is different from lifting lower branches for headroom. We explain the proposed work in plain English, including the intended finished size and shape.

Heavy cutting is not suitable for every tree. Species, previous pruning and condition all matter when deciding what to do.
From quote to clear-up
Access, nearby sheds and greenhouses, lawns, borders and the space below the tree all affect how a job is approached.
A small tree with awkward access can take more handling than a larger tree in an open space. Showing us the route out is just as useful as showing us the tree.
Tell us what is bothering you: lost light, branches against the house, awkward clearance or a tree you want removed. We look at the tree and discuss what the work can realistically achieve.
We check the route into the garden, surrounding buildings and planting, the working space and the amount of material to handle. The quote sets out the agreed cutting, clearance and any stump work.
Before cutting starts, we agree access and identify anything that needs moving or protecting. Keep children and pets away from the working area; we will explain where access needs to stay clear.
The agreed branches and timber are dealt with, loose material is collected and the working area is tidied. If you want timber or woodchip left for your own use, discuss it when we quote so the finish is clear from the start.
After a removal
Removing the tree and removing its stump are different parts of a job. Tell us whether the area will become lawn, planting or somewhere you need clear access.
Cutting close to ground level leaves the stump and roots in place. Grinding works below the surface, but the suitable depth and access need checking. We discuss the option, what material will remain and what is included in the quote.
Flag any known buried services near the stump when you enquire.

Useful answers
Not necessarily. If the problem is size, shade or a few intrusive branches, selective pruning or a reduction may be suitable. Removal may make more sense for a tree in poor condition or an unsuitable position. We look at the tree and your goal before discussing the options.
Restricted access does not automatically rule the job out. Tell us about gate widths, steps, slopes, narrow passages and the distance to the road. These affect how the work and removal of branches or timber can be planned, so an in-person visit is useful.
Green waste removal can be included in the quote. We agree what is being taken away and whether any timber or woodchip is to stay. Tell us in advance if you want to keep material, as cutting, carrying and leaving it all affect the work involved.
Stump treatment is agreed separately as part of the scope. A tree can be cut down leaving a stump, cut close to ground level, or have grinding considered where access and the site allow. Cutting a stump low does not remove it; tell us how you want to use the space afterwards.
We agree this when booking. Clear access, a confirmed scope and a way to contact you are important. Let us know about locked gates, pets and any areas that must stay accessible so arrangements are settled before the day.
